West Somerset’s economy is faltering by comparison with Cornwall, Devon and Dorset. The train service would go a long way to rectifying that and boosting local businesses. When choosing a site to locate, businesses almost always choose somewhere with a decent rail service. Our lack of train service means we lose out to other towns in the West Country that have a proper rail service. There is no reason why the existing steam trains can’t share the line with a modern train from Minehead to Taunton.
You can find out more about the Minehead Rail Link Group at its website http://www.mineheadraillinkgroup.org.uk/
They also have a Facebook page with upcoming events at https://www.facebook.com/Mineheadraillink/
We call on the Conservative government to support the reopening of rail services along the West Somerset Railway to connect Minehead and Taunton.
