Bridgwater and West Somerset Liberal Democrats hail best local election results in decades


The Bridgwater and West Somerset Liberal Democrats got six district councillors elected at the recent local election – their best result for over 20 years.

Across the constituency the Liberal Democrats won 6,580 votes and came second to the Conservatives.

The Liberal Democrats won overall control of the new Somerset West and Taunton Council, with four Liberal Democrats on that council being elected from Bridgwater and West Somerset

In Sedgemoor, the Liberal Democrats went from just one councillor to a group of seven.

  • Cllr Benet Allen – Periton and Woodcombe
  • Cllr Marcus Kravis – Old Cleeve and District
  • Cllr Peter Pilkington – Old Cleeve and District
  • Cllr Mike Rigby – South Quantock

Sedgemoor

  • Cllr Bill Revans – North Petherton
  • Cllr Gary Wong – North Petherton
